“Christianity, if false is
of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately
important” - C.S. Lewis.
The Story of Our Lives
In all the great stories,
the Epic stories, there is a common plot:
+ Once upon a time…
+ Villain comes to the
scene
+ Hero battles
+ Happily ever after
At one point in time of
lives, we have all dreamed of being a similar story. I must admit I would have loved to fight
along side William Wallis (Braveheart) or be Spiderman. We all fantasize about being that hero in
that story. Have we not?
*Just think of some of
your childhood fantasies.
Well, what if I told you
that we are in a similar story? Actually, it is the ultimate story from
which all the others mimic. The story I
am talking about is record found in la Bibilia.
The general plot that we
live out today (as recorded in the Bible) is exactly what I am talking about.
*video collage of clips
from Epic movies all telling the story of the Bible, the story of our lives.
As mentioned, we
are living out this epic tale. So let us
look at our plot to see what role we play…
+ Once upon a time…
Creation – Everything’s good.
// Man is innocent, desiring what God would have for him.
+ Villain comes to the scene
Satan – cannot hurt the
hero, so he attacks what the Hero loves (Man). And now man’s desires change to
please self
+ Hero battles
God limits Himself in
flesh and sacrifices Himself to give us a second chance to align our desires
with His
+ Happily ever after
God’s triumphant return
and the gathering of the faithful
Summary: God is the
unlimited being who created all things; and purposed for us to choose to
worship. And when we failed; loved us
enough to limit Himself as a sacrifice to give us a second chance to choose
worship Him.
Or let me throw it to you
like this:
In the Beginning, it was
all good. We lived our lives purposed to give God our focus. And now that we
messed things up and lost that focus, God still supplied us with another chance
to focus on Him.
So what role do we
play? We are in that battle of good and
evil, which really isn’t much of a battle.
And it is our duty to match our desires to that of God’s. To focus on pleasing Him and share with
others their ability for a second chance and to join the train awaiting the
return of a triumphant Hero.
